As part of getting excited for the summit, we wanted to introduce you to some of the people who are coming. Today we’d like you to meet:
Hello, I’m Becca from Pollard, Columbus, OH
We’re trying to stop the Bureau of Land Management from leasing public land in Wayne National Forest to gas and oil companies for unconventional fracking and drilling. We also oppose Energy Transfer Partners’ Rover Pipeline, which has already caused tremendous environmental destruction in Ohio during construction. It’s planned to go under the Ohio River and through the Proclamation Boundary of Wayne National Forest.
These two issues are connected and part of a larger battle.
The companies leasing more than 700 acres of the land for fracking in the Wayne National Forest are the same companies building the Rover Pipeline. Their impact on our environment and climate are local and global. If we can stop them here, it’ll affect their revenue for building elsewhere.
And, that’s why I’m coming to Pittsburgh for the People vs Oil & Gas summit. We must identify our allies and build a base. I’ll see you there.
Becca is part of Keep Wayne Wild: An environmental conservation organization defending Ohio’s Appalachian communities by celebrating and protecting Ohio’s only National Forest. We do outreach and education around the region to raise awareness and activate our network.
And if you’ll be in Pittsburgh on the 20th, RSVP to join us for a great morning of action at the headquarters of some of the biggest frackers, pipeline-builders, and assorted polluters in America. RSVP and find out more here.
